About our director - Mary Ann Wydra

Mary Ann Wydra is Master Director of the Alamo Metro Chorus in San Antonio, Tx., where she has been directing since they chartered in  l988.  They are nine-time Regional Champions and have competed also ten times at International.  The Chorus has made the Top Ten at International  twice.  She is a long-time member of Sweet Adelines and has sung in three Regional Championship quartets, in three different voice parts.  One of her quartets, the Crystal Aires, were 4th and 5th  place International  Medalists.  She has also coached  many quartets over the years, including several Regional Championship ones.      

 

She is a  Certified Music Arranger  and her original composition/arrangement, “The Winner’s Song” has been published by Sweet Adelines, along with “It’s Time to Sing Sweet Adeline Again”, “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”, “They Never Told Me”(another original),  and “A Friend of Yours”.  Her original song/arrangement of “Let There Be Music” is the title song on Alamo Metro’s cd.   She wrote and arranged the theme song of her former Region, “From the Heart of America”.  Mary Ann also serves on the Sweet Adelines’. International  Published Music/Sales Marketability Committee and is a Certified Music Judge for Sweet Adelines at the Regional and International levels.  She has served on International panels in England, Sweden, and New Zealand.  She served as the Girl’s Clinician at the Youth Barbershop Harmony Festival held at Roosevelt High School in San Antonio  Sept. 19, 2009, where 205 middle school and high school girls  participated in this highly successful endeavor.  She and her Music Team will again be the girls’ clinicians at the 2011 Festival this September.    A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mary Ann directed her first Regional Championship Chorus there years ago.  She has lived in San Antonio, Tx. for 24 years and is mother to four grown children and eight grandchildren.
